About my blog

First of all, thanks for taking the time to visit my site. I hope that you enjoy or find what you here interesting and become a regular visitor.

I’ve been meaning to write a photography related blog for a couple of years, but have only just been able to sit down and find the time to do so. I love both writing and photography so it’s seems like the natural thing to do and combine the two. I’ve long been a fan of online communities and social  interaction and now that the chat rooms of old have given way to full blown social media an online blog is the obvious place to start.

In this blog I’m going to be posting my thoughts on all aspects of people photography and the photographic world in general. As a portrait photographer this is obviously my main area of interest, but it’s so  that it encompasses so many topics that I don’t think I’ll be short of things to say. (Those of you who know me personally will be thinking that I’m never stuck for words anyway!) So I’ll be covering areas of my professional work; lifestyle, commercial, and editorial portraiture and capturing the performing arts live, and also areas of personal interest such as street photography.

As I’m based in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, some of my content will make reference to my locality, but I’m confident that in the main my thoughts will be of interest to photographers and anyone interested in the art or the subjects I shoot wherever they live.

I’ll be posting honest open opinions, hints and tips, tutorials and sometimes the odd rant about something that I just can’t keep quiet about any longer. I’m also planning on putting together short films on various topics which I’ll be posting on here.

Please do feel free to post comments, whether they’re brickbats or bouquets or get in touch via the contact page. For a more regular stream of my thoughts in 140 characters or less, follow me on Twitter (@BarneyAllen), ‘like’ my Facebook page (www.facebook.com/barneyallenphotography), and Google+ too if I can pull my eye away from the viewfinder long enough to start playing around with it!

(I’ll let you insert your own cheesy photography related valediction here.)
